The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Essay Example for Free

The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Essay Notwithstanding the opposition got from nearness, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Anaheim Angel both keep up money related achievement. As opposed to one group commanding the market in ticket deals, both have a beneficial association. Consistently, the two groups figure out how to create a considerable income †notwithstanding sharing a city. The populace frames a faithfulness with one group or the other for a huge number of reasons. The Los Angeles Dodgers had a normal participation of 51,396 fans for every game in 2009 (sportsnetwork. com, 2010). The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim’s normal participation was 40,005 of every 2009 (sportsnetwork. com, 2010). While there is a considerable contrast between the normal ticket deals of the two groups, different variables can represent this, for example, arena size and series of wins. For instance, the Angels just have a seating limit of 45,050 while Dodger arena has a seating limit of 56,000. For instance, a series of wins that could prompt future season finisher games and a likely spot in the World Series, the ticket deals will normally increment for that specific group. This is valid for groups that are separated far separated too. Nearness is just one of a few factors that add to the money related accomplishment of a baseball crew. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a group estimation of $632 million and their yearly income is about $211 million (forbes. com, 2007). The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have a group estimation of $431 million and a yearly income of $187 million (forbes. com, 2007). Second, which is the significant part, talk about the Marginal Cost and the Marginal Benefit of the two groups. likewise, talk about certain issues that could influence their minor expense and their peripheral advantage. There are ordinarily in which minimal expense and negligible advantage can influence the group. In the event that one bit of product surpasses another bit of product, the producer will deliver less of the disliked item and produce a greater amount of the thing that has high deals. On account of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, on the off chance that one group is losing a larger number of games than the other, there could be an expanded number of buyers purchasing passes to the triumphant team’s games. The replacement of products impact would happen in fans without a loyalty to either the Los Angeles Dodgers or the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. For instance, if the ticket costs are lower for one group than the other, and a family simply needs a great evening time viewing a ball game, the buyer would pick the lower value tickets. This is expecting the buyer has no inclination for the particular groups. As the shoppers in the stands purchase lagers and buy wieners, they are in the long run influenced by the law of lessening utility. At the end of the day, as the buyer ingests more franks, he will become satisfied and each resulting wiener will be less agreeable. Accordingly, the buyer will be less disposed to purchase more. There are numerous components that can influence the flexibly and request of the market for ticket deals. Expanding the quantity of seats influences the total flexibly the chief can offer fans. On a gracefully and request bend, the flexibly would move to one side in this situation. An event to expand the quantity of seats would be a sold-out arena each game. This would almost certainly make the proprietors of the arena attempt to expand the flexibly of seats to fulfill the need of the ticket holders. Another factor that could expand the flexibly is an expansion in the measure of product advertised. Typically the expansion in gracefully is incited by an expanded interest, except if the product could abruptly be created at a less expensive expense to the producer.

The Art of Drafting Master Your Writing

Have you ever wondered how some writers are capable of producing hundreds of pages in a matter of weeks, while you are struggling for days with a measly two-page essay that isn’t even going to be published? Is it talent? Or, perhaps, some magic trick that miraculously increases their productivity a hundredfold? While it is unlikely to be true of all writers in general, there is a trick – or, rather, a method – that is used by the majority of authors that actually manage to get something done. The trick is incredibly simple – you just have to separate your writing process into two stages: drafting and editing, and be very, very particular about keeping them apart. Why is it so important? Anybody who tends to try writing an essay in one go (especially perfectionists who try to make every line and word look just right) know this situation: you write an essay, you have a general idea of what it is going to be about, you have a plan of what to mention and where. You write a sentence, start another – yet something seems to be a little bit off with that first sentence, so you come back and correct it. You go on writing, then think of a way to write this first sentence even better, get back, rewrite it – and now you have to correct the entire paragraph because it doesn’t fit the new, better variant of the first sentence. This may go on for hours – for a perfectionist it may turn the process of writing into living hell, because nothing is ever good enough. When you separate creative process into drafting and editing, you approach things differently. At the drafting stage your task is not to write a beautiful and minutely calibrated essay, but to put your thoughts on paper arranged more or less in the way you want them to. You needn’t worry about style, transitions between sentences or, for that matter, even grammar. You simply make sure you mention everything you wanted where you wanted. It will allow you to write quickly, without interrupting the flow of thoughts and inspiration, which is extremely important – if you stop every now and then and go back, your thought process will be disrupted, you will lose your own line of reasoning and get confused. And only after this, after your first rough draft is finished, you may go back and start essay editing: add all the missing logical transitions between paragraphs, prettify the language, correct grammar mistakes, work on style. The good thing about it? You will often discover that there is no need to alter this rough draft all that much – at least, you will spend much less time editing it than you would’ve spent endlessly rewriting its parts. The reason is simple – when you try to write the final draft from the get-go, you try to compose the whole that doesn’t exist yet out of fragments you create on the spot, without having a complete picture before your eyes. When you separate writing into two stages, you create a cohesive whole that already works together, and then make it work even better.

I Interviewed A Former Babysitter Of Mine - 1212 Words

For this assignment, I interviewed a former babysitter of mine, DL. DL is 25 years old and is deaf. She has a hearing aid and a cochlear implant. I reached out to her on Facebook and asked her if I could interview her for the assignment; I sent her the list of questions and she sent the answers back to me. She does not remember noticing that she couldn’t hear; her guess is that her hearing loss was from birth and very gradual, so she never noticed and thought it was normal as a kid. Her parents noticed something was off by the age of 3- she had a severe language delay, didn’t do well with verbal instruction, and was extremely quiet and shy. She does not know the cause of her hearing loss. She says, â€Å"I was writing an autobiography for my homework assignment and I started it off with ‘I’m DL and I’m hard of hearing’ and my teacher gently corrected me and told me that I now had severe to profound hearing loss and was considered Deaf. It was the first time someone explained the level of my hearing loss (even though it was in simplistic terms) and it proved to be a catalyst for my Deaf identity today. â€Å" DL got her first hearing aid at 5. Her father put in the hearing aids every day when she was young until she was assigned a teacher to help her practice putting in the hearing aids. The teacher was a DHOH specialist who pulled her out of class weekly to practice how to use the hearing aid, changing batteries, and lip reading skills. She was considered a better candidate for hearing aids since she had a mild hearing loss when she was younger and not deemed a good fit for surgical intervention since hearing aids was the least invasive procedure for hearing. Eventually, DL decided to get a cochlear implant. She started to realize that her hearing loss was progressive; she went from a mild hearing loss at 33 dB to severe to profound hearing loss at 95 dB. At that time she had mostly

Accounting Organizations and Society System †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Accounting Organizations and Society System. Answer: Introduction: The goodwill impairment is mainly considered a charge that is imposed by organisation in the annual report when carrying value of the goodwill exceeds the fair value. In addition, the overall valuation of goodwill impairment is mainly considered an earnings charge that is recorded by the companies in their income statement. This record in the income statement is mainly conducted to identify whether goodwill is not able to demonstrate the financial results. Adams, Mezzullo and McManus (2015) mentioned that impairments charge directly allow the organisation to reduce the goodwill value according to the change in its future financial gain. There are different ways in which the overall goodwill impairment charges could be recorded in the annual report of QBEs. In addition, the impairment expenses are recorded in two statement of the annual report, which directly help in adjusting the fair value of an asset. The annual report of QBE needs to needs to adjust goodwill impairment charge of about $600 million and one-time impairment charge of $150 million. The impairment charges need to be recorded in annual report of the organisation, which could help in improving the financial viability of the organisation. The relevant measure could eventually help in declining the goodwill of QBE from its financial report. The overall onetime impairment charge of $150 million will mainly be deducted from the income statement, which could directly reduce the total profit for the year. Moreover, the goodwill impairment charge of about $600 million will mainly be reflected in non-current assets of the balance sheet. Hence, the impairment ch ange will mainly reduce the value of goodwill in the annual report. Bebbington and Larrinaga (2014) stated that use of impairment expenses directly allow the organisation to adjust their intangible assets, which could help in depicting the fair value of the organisation. Depicting whether QBEs chairperson is considered an intangible asset, and adequate disclosure is been depicted in their financial statement: The relevant intangible assets need to be disclosed in the financial report of QBE, as it might help in improving the financial report. However, the reputation of the chairperson cannot be considered intangible assets, which is adequately depicted in IFRS 3, and IE16-IE44. The relevant measures directly indicate that the individual person cannot be considered an intangible asset of an organisation. According to the relevant Initial Accounting for Internally Generated Intangible Assets, it could be identified that -any kind of work or programmes can be considered intangibles assets (Cortesi et al. 2015). However, the person that is contributing to the intangible asset cannot be considered an intangible asset of an organisation. This can be identified from the paragraph 33 A, where it states that artist related works like literary work, television programmes and plays can be identified as intangible asserts. However, persons having the talent to create the programs and play are not con sidered intangible assets, where it cannot be listed in the annual report of an organisation. However, the programs and policies, which try to increase the financial income of the company in future, can be listed in the annual report of QBE. Hence, the CEO cannot be listed as the intangible assets of the organisation as per the AASB and IFRS rule. Drury (2013) mentioned that the relevant rules and regulations directly state that the organisation can list the intangible assets, which could provide relevant future income for the organisation. The organisation could also use the contract based, technology based, customer-related based and marketing related intangible assets, which could be listed in annual report of the organisation. Therefore, it could be assumed that QBE cannot enlist the reputation of CEO, as the intangible assets in their annual report. Identifying the benefits that might accrue to Lion Nathan with sales and leaseback transactions: From the overall evaluation of the Lion Nathan, case relevant benefits that could be identified from operations. This could eventually allow the organisation to reduce the overall tax that is been given and maximise their retained income. The relevant sale of the property could eventually allow the organisation to increase their cash reserves, which could raise the investment capacity of Lion Nathan. The leaseback transaction could also help in improving the overall profitability of the organisation. This lease transaction could eventually allow the organisation to get deductions in their tax amount, which in turn could help in increasing the retained income that could eventually raise shareholders wealth. Hoyle, Schaefer and Doupnik (2015) mentioned that reduction in overall tax expenses directly allows the organisation for retaining more income in the business, which could directly help in improving shareholders wealth. Moreover, the sales value could eventually allow the organisation to obtain more cash, which could in turn help in improving its investment capability. Furthermore, the high cash reserves could eventually allow Lion Nathan to conduct the required level of investments on hotels, which could improve revenue stream of the organisation. Malak (2015) mentioned that companies with high investment scope could eventually allow the organisation to generate the relevant profitability from investment that could increase firm value and raise shareholder wealth. The relevant lease needs to be a finance lease, as Lion Nathan could adequately enlist the asset in balance sheet. The finance lease is mainly considered, as a general loan, where the asset directly appears in the balance sheet. This finance lease also allows the organisation to hold the asset as ownership, which could directly allow the company to initiate both interest and depreciation in their books. These overall measures could directly allow Lion Nathan to reduce the overall tax expenses and increase relevant retained income. However, the operating lease method does not allow the organization to enlist the asset in their balance sheet, which could in turn reduce its total assets (McEwen and Hunton 2015). The operating lease method only allows interest expenses to be deducted from the annual report and the company in their income statement calculates no depreciation. Therefore, it could be understood that using operating lease does not provide Lion Nathan any kind of advantage fo r improving its financial position in the annual report. Hence, It could be identified that using the finance lease measure could eventually allow Lion Nathan to improve its capital assets, which could be listed in the annual report. Relevant entries need to be conducted by Lion Nathan on its income statement and balance sheet to reflect the sale of pubs. This directory allows Lion Nathan for reducing the total assets and depicting any kind of loss of profit that was obtained from the sale of pubs. any kind of profit and loss will directly be reflected on the income statement where it would be stated as loss or profit from sale of asset. On the same aspect relevant deduction in the balance sheet for a particular asset needs to be conducted adjusting the balance sheet according to the current total assets of the organisation. In this context, Mo and Waples (2015) stated that the use of asset sale directly allows the organisation to obtain the relevant cash for supporting a new investment idea, which could provide higher returns from investment. The detection of any kind of profits obtained by the organisation is directly depicted in income statement, which portrays the current transaction that is conducted by the organisation. Moreover, the cash transactions of the sale will also be reflected on cash flow statement, relevant reductions from sale of assets will be depicted. Depreciation is mainly calculated on the basis of actual value of an asset, which could directly reflect in annual report of the organisation. There will be a change in depreciation valuation that needs to be conducted by Lion Nathan in their annual report, as the lease value will mainly be calculated for depreciation purposes. In addition, any kind of profit from the sale of pub will directly increase the valuation of the Asset, while a loss would reduce the valuation of the Asset. This relevant reduction or increment in the asset value could also change the depreciation value, as Lion Nathan will be using finance leasing method. This finance leasing method directly allows the organisation to depreciate the asset in the annual books and record the assets in balance sheet (Smith 2017). Hence, the depreciation will change for Lion Nathan in their annual report, as valuation of the Asset will change. Reference and Bibliography: Adams, P.W.R., Mezzullo, W.G. and McManus, M.C., 2015. George W. Crandell Essay Example

George W. Crandell Essay George W. Crandell in his essay entitled echo spring: Reflecting the gaze of Narcissus in Tennessee Williams Cat on a hot tin roof claims that Bricks problem is psychological, whereas Charles E. May in his essay entitled Brick Pollit as Homo Ludens: Three players of a summers game and Cat on a hot tin roof affirms that his problem is not psychological but metaphysical. After careful consideration of these two viewpoints (A04) consider what you believe to be Bricks essential problem and discuss whether or not Tennessee Williams allows him to resolve it. In your answer consider the methods Williams uses to present Bricks dilemma (A03) and examine the contemporary influences working upon him (A05i). George W Crandells mentions the idea that T.W draws upon mythological analogues to highlight his characters .He goes on to compare Bricks problem to be similar to that of mythological character Narcissus, who was so good-looking that he fell in love with his own reflection and whos name now denotes a psychological disorder and believes that his problem is psychological and can be cured. This would have been particularly appealing to Tennessee Williams as his plays have often been commended for their psychological realism. The similarities between Brick and Narcissus are suggested mainly by Bricks favourite alcoholic beverage (Echo spring) and by Bricks consistent self destructive behaviour. Also just like Narcissus Brick is considered to be a very handsome and beautiful individual who captures the hearts of boys and girls alike. Yet Brick spurns the love of others only to fall in love with his favourite drink, seeing in this an escape route into the way he used to be. And Brick like Narcissus pines away from unrequited love, seeming prefer death than to live life without the object of his affection. And while in the end death claims Narcissus, Ovid offers us the theory that Narcissus has been dramatically transformed into a beautiful flower. And at the end of scene three in the Broadway version Williams shows the possibility of Brick also having undergone a miraculous metamorphosis giving the ending a lot more optimism for the future. Maggie: I do love you Brick, I do Brick: Wouldnt it be funny if that was true? As well as bearing an uncanny resemblance to Narcissus he also shows an alarming number of traits linking to the psychological personality disorder known as Narcissism. Crandell goes on to say that the key to understanding Bricks disorder and behaviour one must first understand Bricks condition not as a physical or existential condition but an understandable and therefore treatable disorder. And once this is understood we can recognise Brick as the central character whom all the main drama revolves around. In this stage direction we see Bricks importance not only as an isolated individual but in relation to others, all of whom endure a common crisis The bird that I hope to catch in the net of this play is not the solution of one mans psychological problem. Im trying to catch the true quality of experience in a group of people, that cloudy flickering, evanescent- fiercely charged!- interplay of live human beings in the thundercloud of a common crisis. This common crisis and is greater than one mans psychological problem encircles the majority of the Pollit family in which Brick commands the centre of attention. This (Bricks Narcissism) for Williams is a microcosm of American culture in this post war era and of how it will become should society continue to be ruled the way it is by self interested individuals such as Brick. Crandell then explains what Williams does here is try to realistically compare Bricks Narcissistic personality to that of an emerging society. Who a vast majority of the time have no regard for the past, future or the feelings of other .This can only be the actions of an individual intent upon self destruction. And this is still reminiscent of society today and has been for thousands of years. Some people feel that society no longer does anything for the common good any more .But now only to things to gain self satisfaction and importance. This as mentioned has been the downfall of society for thousands of years for example the Greek and Roman empires who upon conquering most of the known world began to disintegrate after becoming mainly a pleasure seeking society full of mendacity and corruption, thus securing its own destruction. And Thus providing us with a perfect example for the future of American society. He goes on to say that Bricks narcissism in the play acts as a metaphor in a series of symptoms evident in society which often threatens the health and well being of the American people. For example Bricks alcoholism an underlying symptom of his disorder which Maggie seems to recognise as implies that he needs treatment and threatens to send him to rainbow hill a rehabilitation clinic a place famous for treating alcoholics an dope fiends. But Brick protests that treatment is the last thing he needs and says that alcohol is the only therapy he needs and gives us the impression that it gives him the strength to continue his existence in a society with such high expectations and to deal with the disappointments of his everyday life. On he goes on to describe to Maggie the click that he experiences when he feels most at peace with himself.

The Prince of Egypt essays

The Prince of Egypt essays The film Prince of Egypt did a wonderful job at filling in the details of Moses' life. While many scenes were added to the biblical narrative, the film's poetic license needed to create some of the interaction between Joseph and his older brother Ramses in order for the characters to find flesh and blood on the silver screen. Even in animated form, the additional scenes helped the viewer understand that these characters were not just flannel graph images which played out a predetermined and stoic One of these scenes depicts Joseph and Ramses racing through the city streets on their chariots. The competition between the older and younger brothers gave character depth and dimension to the film. Ramses, as the oldest, would have been more ridged, focused on pleasing his father and ultimately replacing pharaoh with all the force and responsibility that his task would require of him. Joseph, on the other hand, could afford to play, and prod his older brother into crossing the lines of "appropriate behavior" for a future pharaoh. The dynamics of their relationship helped form the power of the conflict when Moses returned to lead his people out How would have Moses felt, facing his brother whom he had not seen in 40 years. How would the one who had left in disgrace be able to stand before his brother and insist that Ramses let the strength of Egypt leave under the guidance of Moses staff' The file adds the scene between two of them sitting in the darkened colonnades of the palace. Moses an Ramses talk about their adolescent pranks against the temple priests, and how they loved to, as most adolescent men, play pranks, goad each other into stepping over the lines, and then how they supported the other when circumstances did not fall in their favor. Just as the Cecil B D'Mille film "The Ten Commandments" added the love rivalry between Moses and Ramses ...

Compare and Contrast Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 2

Compare and Contrast - Essay Example This means that; it is a poet’s place in society to act as an overseer, and point out the things that may be out of place. In the past, poets brought out the political injustices through satire. This art has extended to different fields. Also, poets have the ability to bring out different messages through the themes present in their poems. The themes offer them a chance to express what they might be feeling. As one of the oldest forms of art, poetry has its place in society as it gives individuals a chance to reinvent themselves, hence; be worthy in the eyes of society (Bloom 91). This paper will examine the theme brought out by two poets in their prime, and the comparisons and dissimilarities that occur in this theme. Walt Whitman and Federico Garcia are well-renowned poets who dedicated their skill to the world. During their era, a lot was happening in their immediate surroundings. They used their skill to communicate with individuals about what was happening to protect them , or assist them comprehend their situations. In, When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d, Whitman was bringing the world’s attention to the death of a great leader (Bloom 91). It was after the assassination of Lincoln that Whitman decided to write the poem, and bring out the theme of death. It was a poem of mourning where he mourned the passing of an icon. These poems are often described as elegies. It was pastoral elegy dedicated to the fallen hero, and all that he had done. In, Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejjas, Federico wrote about his beloved friend whom he cherished and adored (Arana 159). Federico mourned the passing of his friend through a long process of grief. The theme of death in both the poems is brought out in a traditional fashion by both poets. This is one similarity that stands out in both the poems. In Federico’s poem, he brings out the traditional aspect of the elegy. He brings the long process of grief through the poem about his departed acq uaintance. This symbolism takes precedence over the life and cultural traditions that accustom an honourable person in society. In Whitman’s poem, the traditional aspect is seen through the symbolism the poet puts in the fallen president. He uses the Western star to symbolise the fallen president, and a number of other symbolic features to represent the life of the star (Bloom 91). Both these deaths were of exemplary individuals; Lincoln in Whitman’s case, and Ignacio, the bullfighter, in Federico’s case. Another similarity that is brought out in these poems is the nature that surrounds the burial of the two dignified members of society. In Whitman’s poem, nature is said to have worn a sombre mood, â€Å"nature sympathizes with America’s grief†¦as the coffin makes its long journey from Washington to Springfield.† In Federico’s poem, he also resonates with the mood that was present at the burial of the fallen bullfighter, â€Å"t he room was iridescent with agony, at five in the afternoon.† It all comes down to what the poet wants the audience to feel. The sombre mood can be felt even as the audience may not have been present at the time of the burials (Arana 169). The experience that both poets have is seen through their ability to honour the dead. Musical elements are another similarity that both poets exhibit through their elegies. In Federico’s poem, he produces the image of bones and flutes resounding in the air (Arana 189). All these are elements that bring out an eerie feeling to whoever was watching the proceedings of the death of Ignacio. In Whitman’s poem, he reflects on the virtues of the lilacs and their magnificent presence. In many of American people’s gardens, the lilacs are flowers that are well known for their delicate

Introduction to Operating Systems - Assignment Example An answer file is a key component of an unattended installation. Users only need to run the setup program using a command-line parameter which makes the setup program take inputs form the answer file. During the rest of the windows setup process, the setup hardly requires administrators for guidance as the program takes all input form the answer file component of the unattended installation. As Koons (n.d.) states, â€Å"the computer manages to bypass user interaction by reading instructions that are coded within a response file†. The setup installs all files in an automated manner minimizing user interaction to a large extent. The setup program also automatically restarts the computer system during installation when necessary. Users/administrators only need to customize their settings during the process of installation. Although many tools work in an operating system’s built-in mechanism, I would like to use a file-protection tool which should take care of all files required to run the operating system. Sometimes, important files get damaged affecting the working of an operating system. Therefore, I would like to include a file protection tool in an operating system’s built-in

The Use Of Facial Expressions In Communication English Language Essay

The Use Of Facial Expressions In Communication English Language Essay What messages are we conveying with the expression on our faces or with the twinkle in our eye. Is it a universal message known to all or is it interpreted differently by various cultures and people? Facial expressions are a major part of communication and have a profound impact on the messages we give and receive nonverbally. This paper will focus on facial expressions and the influences they have on the way we are able to understand another persons emotions without as much as a word from them. Discussion We are communicating with our bodies all the time whether we realize it or not. Most of the emotional meanings of our messages are given through facial expressions, body language, gestures and our appearance. People tend to believe nonverbal signs of communication more than the actual words because it is harder to mask the emotions behind them and they show through. Reading and interpreting these nonverbal cues is valuable skill. It is useful in all different types of relationships every day. Different cultures focus their attention on various parts of the face making this form on nonverbal communication different among cultures. In America we look at the face in its entirety as opposed to Easterners who concentrate more on just the eyes. This is shown through emoticons as well as in person. (Facial expressions,)When Westerners email or send a text message the emoticon s show a mouth smiling or frowning. Easterners emoticons have bigger eyes and the mouth is usually a straight across line. Westerners emoticons eyes are usually represented by dots. The differences in these show where different cultures focus their attention on and what they find most important. Often, people tend to mimic the facial expression of the person who is talking to them. It is said that this is an unconscious act so people dont always know when they are doing it. Some researchers have said it is a behavior we learn, for that reason it is different among cultures. These expressions are said to be so powerful that they can influence an emotional experience without the perceiver actually going through the experience. (Emotional empathy and, 2008). These influential gestures have the ability to make people empathize with one another. This made me think of the saying smile, its contagious. I have noticed if Im having a bad day and a random stranger smile at me I return the smile and sometime that puts me in a better mood. Even if my mood it just changes a little, it is still a strong tool. I believe facial expressions are a very powerful form of communication. I believe if we utilize them correctly they can be very persuasive and help us in our day to day lives. It has been proven that children with disabilities have a harder time understanding people socially. Studies show that people with autism and mental retardation have a different way of interpreting facial expressions. Instead of focusing on the entire face as a whole, people with autism look at the lower part of the face focusing their gaze mostly on the mouth. (Gross, 2007). When reading someones facial expressions we look at a number of things including eyes, mouth, eye brows and many other muscles of the face. By looking into someones eyes we can tell if they are lying, paying attention to us or if they are avoiding something. An autistic person generally avoids eye contact or has very little of it. They look at other people as little as possible. (Klin,Lin,Gorrindo,Ramsey,Jones, 2009). This is the main reason they do not interpret facial expressions as well as others. The lack of focus on the eyes has a major impact on this. They also do not mirror the expressions which is how yo u learn to read and interpret them starting at a young age. There are many different factors that we take into consideration when interpreting facial expressions. Place and time is a main one. If a person has just woken up we may see that on their face and interpret it as they are tired when in fact they are well rested and just waking up. Another factor is if alcohol has been added in the mix. In one study, after the participants were given alcohol, they had a harder time distinguishing between if the picture of the male was angry or disgusted. Because of the stereotypical belief that males are more aggressive their facial expression was perceived as this. The same study showed that alcohol did not affect the ability to perceive happy emotions. (Attwood,Ataya,Benton,Penton-Voak,Munafo, 2009). Positive emotions are easier to read and take less effort to distinguish. They are generally the same among different ages and cultures. Another factor that determines whether we accept or reject a facial expression is the current mood we are in. If we are happy we are more positive and more accepting or willing to believe the expression as genuine. If we are in a bad mood there is a better chance of us assuming that the person is controlling their expression and it isnt truly how they feel. (Forgas, East, 2008) We tend to analyze negative expressions more. If we are listening to someone talk and watching their expressions while we are angry or unhappy we are usually showing this on our face. If we are not mirroring the expressions of the person talking ,we usually dont fully understand or really believe what they are saying. We are a lot more skeptical of others while in a bad mood ,almost as if we are threatening situation. I think that is because they can lead to a more negative experience. Positive emotions are easier to read and understand. If we feel better about ourselves and our mood, we feel better about othe r people and are able to trust that they are being genuine. Conclusion- We are expressing and perceiving many different messages through nonverbal communication and our bodies. Our facial expressions have a major impact on this part of communication and can be the deciding factor on if what we are saying is believed by the other person. This very powerful nonverbal form of communication can be used as a persuasive tool to help us get what we want or help a perceiver emphasize with how we feel. It can also help a person lie to someone .If one learns to control their expressions they can be very deceitful. Because people with disabilities view the face in parts instead of a whole they do not get the full effect of the expressions and they are not able to grasp the meaning of it. There are other things factors that cloud our ability to interpret facial expressions such as stereotyping and alcohol. When added together it is easier to misread the signs we can usually interpret without a problem . This is usually only true when referring to males. I believe that nonverbal communication is a very important type of communication. Because facial expressions are such a major part of this, I think it is important to learn and understand them. They show how a person feels without them saying it. If the person interpreting the message is in a good mood they will most likely believe the person sending the message is being genuine. If you can learn to correctly use and interpret these important tools, than you will have outstanding communication skills needed for your work and personal life. Citations- Facial expressions. The Pit and the Pendulum essay -- essays research papers

The Dungeon of Madness In this story, Edgar Allan Poe (such as in many of his works) uses the setting to create a dark image inside our minds. He makes this specially through darkness, therefore the character makes a connection with death. â€Å"The physical setting oppresses him in the visions of his graveyard† (1). â€Å"The setting plays an important role in how the narrator discovers the many ways he may die† (2). It is a dungeon full of torturing traps, and the character, as any normal human, feels terror inside his prison and fears his death in any of the cruel ways arranged for him. Still, he has to decide between death and the relief which it brings or life with the interminable agony of being tortured as a lab mouse. The best terror stories create suspense through the setting. Most of the times, the character does not know completely where he is or what enemy or problem he is facing. In â€Å"The Pit and the Pendulum†, the underground prison is dark; as a result, the character compares the place with hell or even his tomb. That is why at the beginning, during his dream-like state, he does not want to open his eyes and we do not know where he is either. The darkness makes the character struggle with the idea of trusting his senses or not. Also, he is afraid to discover more mean ways in which he may die. Poe creates a disgusting atmosphere for the setting. He starts describing the prison as a "damp and hard place." There is no light and the character is not able to s...

Barrack Obama

Barrack Obama is going to be one of the great leaders that America ever have in its history. He is going to rejuvenate the country and bringing it back to life. His dynamic leadership will infuse a new spirit of hope into it. Presently America is faced with myriad of problems on various fronts and a very vibrant leadership is required to bring it back on the track towards progress. Barrack Obama is the man who can do all this efficiently. He has declared in his speeches that he is going to end the war in Iraq and this way he is going to plug the drain on the huge budgetary spending on this intensely disturbing and money-wasting war.I will also vote for him for the reason that he is going to bring our boys back from the unkind soil of Iraq. His economic policy are sustainable and have human element in them. He says that he believes in â€Å"an economy that honors the dignity of work. † (Democratic Convention Speech, 2008) He also does not believe in conventional racial theories prorogated by earliest Afro-American leaders and looks forward for homogeneous society. (Race Speech, 2008)I will vote for barrack Obama because he has said that he is going to finish Al-qaeda hideouts in Afghanistan and that he will crush them to death even if he has to enter into the land of Pakistan. He said in this regard: â€Å"The first step must be getting off the wrong battlefield in Iraq, and taking the fight to the terrorists in Afghanistan and Pakistan. † (Obama, 2007) On the front of economy for the reason that eight years of George Bush and his party’s rule has just given birth to unemployment, budgetary deficit and a big pile of loans. The image of my country has also been tarnished greatly because of their policies. So I don’t want that party to have another four years in the presidential office. The speeches of barrack Obama has made me very optimistic that when Obama will enter into the presidential office he will, by strong, vibrant and meaning ful steps, uplift the economy and put it on the tack towards success and development. All above-mentioned arguments clearly manifest that Obama is a right selection to be voted as next U. S. president in these hard times as he is determined and devoted toward the cause of democratic world which is less prone to terrorism. He agenda is not only American but is universal in nature. My Philosophy of Education Essay - 1611 Words

Philosophy of Education One characteristic of a good teacher is a sound philosophy of education. This will ensure the readiness of the teacher in the classroom setting. The philosophy should be thought out with care and contain concrete ideas concerning several aspects of education. My philosophy of education contains my view about: the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of public education, teaching methods, and curriculum. People have many different views about the nature of students. Like Rousseau, I feel that students are neither good nor evil. I think that intelligence is shaped into different levels. Students should be placed in a situation where they will benefit the most. I feel that students possess the same intelligence, however, I also believe that it develops at different rates. For optimum success, students should be place in a setting where the other students are developing at the same rate. I also agree with Plato and Socrates’ belief about the nature of knowledge. The nature of knowledge is absolute. I feel that the student has to discover it, and it is the teacher’s job to present the material in such a manner that the student desires to discover the knowledge available from the teacher. Absolute knowledge remains constant throughout place and time. Reason will find truth. Education serves several purposes in our society. Education prepares youth for their place in society.
